Cordell
Mark Elliott
You were born the middle son
But you’d make your mark when day was done
A river boy with the heart of a pioneer
No stranger to the cost of war
From Cuba’s sand to senate floor
You were a Tennessee Volunteer
Cordell, Cordell you served your country well
Far beyond the Cumberland cabin you called home
The world needed you
When the words of war were through
A quiet voice strong behind the scenes
You said our passion must be peace
Rising from the dustbowl haze
Like a Phoenix came the new deal days
You were there as fertile seeds were sown
And when Roosevelt could not stand
You stepped up and made the man
Taller than he could ever be alone
Repeat Chorus
The UN and the Nobel Prize
Footprints of a well lived life
Rest easy in the legacy you leave
Repeat Chorus
